Getting Started

Ready to Join

I am a full-time graduate or undergraduate UCLA Student. Do I have access to UCLA Recreation facilities?

Enrolled UCLA and UC students, who have paid the full undergraduate or graduate registration fees for the current quarter, are granted access to UCLA Recreation facilities and services at no additional cost.

Additional fees apply for some classes, programs, and rentals. Access restrictions may apply. Our Fit Center South facility is not available to students or children. Entry to all other UCLA Recreation facilities requires a current Bruin Card or proof of enrollment and photo ID.

I graduated last quarter. Do I have access to UCLA Recreation facilities?

Graduating students may purchase a UCLA Recreation membership for one quarter after graduation. Quarterly fee is $35. Verification of graduation and eligibility to enroll required.

I am on Leave of Absence. How can I obtain access to UCLA Recreation facilities?

Students on a formal Leave of Absence from the department may purchase a UCLA Recreation membership on a quarterly basis. Quarterly fee is $35. Verification required.

I am an adult and live with a UCLA student. Can I join UCLA Recreation?

If you are 18 years or older and live with a full-time enrolled student (spouse, domestic partner, roommate, etc.), you may purchase a student Household Adult membership. Photo IDs, including the student’s Bruin ID, are required at time of purchase. Student and Household Adult must also be able to show verification of residing at the same address (personalized checks, utility bills, or driver’s licenses). Students are limited to four Household Adults, 1 at the Household Adult rate and 3 at the Young Alumni rate. (Exceptions can be granted with the approval of the MCO/Reception Manager, Assistant Director, or Associate Director.)

Annual Memberships for students and their Household Adults and families coincide with the traditional academic year (September 1 - June 30).

I would like to join UCLA Recreation. I am affiliated with UCLA as a(n):

  • UCLA Full-time Employee
  • Doctoral Candidate
    Doctoral Candidates, who have paid the candidacy filing fee, may purchase a UCLA Recreation membership on a quarterly basis. Quarterly fee is $35. Verification required. Candidates who have not paid this fee or are not registered students have no privileges.
  • Visiting Scholar
    Visiting Scholars, who have the written sanction of a department director or chairperson (and are neither a bona fide student nor a salaried employee), may purchase a UCLA Recreation membership on a quarterly basis. Quarterly fee is $50. Verification required. Candidates who have not paid this fee or are not registered students have no privileges. Length of stay for Visiting Scholars must be specified.
  • Research Assistant or Teaching Assistant (currently registered)
    Research or Teaching Assistants may purchase a UCLA Recreation membership on a quarterly basis. If UC student, then the student policies apply; if not, then the UC employee policies apply. Photo ID and proper verification is required.
  • Extension Student
    Extension Students enrolled in a Certificate Program or concurrent (regular) UCLA class listed in the quarterly Schedule of Classes may purchase a UCLA Recreation membership on a quarterly basis. Quarterly fee is $35. Verification required. All other extension students pay quarterly at our UCLA Affiliate rate.
  • UCLA Graduate
  • UCLA Graduate (within the last four years)
  • UCLA Emeritus

I would like to join UCLA Recreation, but I am NOT affiliated with UCLA. How can I affiliate and join?

Friends of UCLA or members of the community may become a UCLA Affiliate by joining the UCLA Alumni Association. Alumni must also join the Alumni Association. Only one Alumni Association membership per family is required to become a UCLA Affiliate. For your convenience, you may purchase your Recreation and Alumni Association memberships together at Membership & Information Services in John Wooden Center, 2nd floor.

I am an adult and live with a UCLA Employee, Emeritus, or Alumni Association member who is currently, or wants to become, a UCLA Recreation member. How can we join?

If you are 18 years or older and live with a Principle Recreation Member (spouse, domestic partner, roommate, etc.), you may purchase a Household Adult membership. Photo IDs, including the Principal Member’s affiliation ID, is required at time of purchase. Principal Member and Household Adult must also be able to show verification of residing at the same address (personalized checks, utility bills, or driver’s licenses). Limit of 2 Household Adults per Principal Recreation membership. (Exceptions can be granted with the approval of the MCO/Reception Manager, the Assistant or Associate Director.)

Annual Memberships for Household Adults and families of Recreation members coincide with the Principal Member’s expiration date (3/31, 6/30, 9/30, or 12/31).

My spouse or domestic partner is a Faculty, Staff, or Emeriti of UCLA but not interested in joining UCLA Recreation. Can I join through his/her affiliation to the University?

Yes! If you are a spouse or adult (18 years or older) living with someone who qualifies as a Principal Recreation Member but chooses not to purchase a membership, the Household Adult may then purchase a Principle membership through the affiliation. Photo ID and signed verification from UCLA-affiliated party is required at time of purchase. You must also be able to show verification of residing at the same address as the UCLA-affiliated party (personalized checks, utility bills, or driver’s licenses). (Exceptions can be granted with the approval of the MCO/Reception Manager, the Assistant or Associate Director.)

Qualifying Principal Household Adult pays at Principal Member rate.

What do I bring with me to join?

You must bring a photo ID and current proof of affiliation to purchase a membership. Household Adults must also bring proof of shared residence.
All adults will need to sign a Liability Waiver before purchase.

Are lockers available for purchase?

Lockers and showers are available at most UCLA Recreation facilities either for rent or day use. Please check with individual facilities on how to obtain and use a locker. We strongly recommend that valuables be left at home. Children 6 years of age and older should use their same sex locker room. Please see the facility manager if you require assistance. Please contact individual facilities for more information.
